Who are the Chainsmokers? The Chainsmokers are a DJ duo composed of members Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart. The duo met while still in college. After briefly becoming acquainted it seems as though the pair were destined to meet. For Alex Pall DJing was just a hobby at first. DJ gigs were just a side hustle; however, Alex was extremely passionate about it. For Alex, DJing was “more like fun than job.”
After just a quick introduction with bandmate Andrew Taggart, the two just knew they would create well together. Believing in what he was embarking on so much Alex quit his job. From the latter point onward, the rest is just history; sort to speak. Alex and Andrew worked together tirelessly from 9 in the morning to 7 at night. However, their dedication was greatly rewarded. In addition to growing in popularity and working more gigs together, the duo also found their identity as artists.
It didn’t take long for the DJ duo to catch the wave and ride it to stardom. As they became bigger their audience expanded across genres. In the beginning , The Chainsmokers audience was primarily college kids. However, now their audience includes men and women over 30 and even an audience of children under age 15. What’s also fascinating about The Chainsmokers rising career is their reach globally. A great deal of their fans are international.
It is a constant effort to stay interesting and consistent in the industry. Pall always takes into consideration when he and Andrew are planning their live shows. Understanding that during their live shows, they must really set themselves apart from other DJs. One thing that stands out about the DJ duo is that they perform all their concerts live. A method that contrasts typical DJ’s today. Not wanting to get stagnant and keep repeating the same things, Pall makes it a point to continue to reinvent himself. Collaborating with top artists, touring the world, and selling out concerts months in advance, it seems as though people will know exactly who The Chainsmokers are for a long time to come.
The Chainsmokers have had dance music on lock since 2014. With their debut single “#Selfie,” they gave the mainstream crowd a taste of what they had to offer. By 2016, with the release of “Closer,” they were one of the most well known dance acts out. In 2018, after just two years, “Closer” went diamond.
Featuring Halsey, who was also launched into super stardom by the song, “Closer” is about a young man and woman who have recently moved in with each other. The duet, also featuring the Chainsmoker’s Drew Taggart, features topics such as money problems, feeling home sick, and other problems a young couple might have to deal with.
Shortly after the release of “Closer,” The Chainsmokers conducted an interview where they discussed their past, present, and future. Their fans, their changing live show, and many other topics also popped up during the conversation.
Alex Pall explained that his career began as a DJ in the New York Area; Drew Taggart was interning at Interscope on the side while attending University. When Pall’s prior partner left him hanging mutual contacts brought Taggart and Pall together. Thanks to their instant chemistry they were able to go straight to work.
The interviewer asked The Chainsmokers about who their fans are and Alex Pall responded. “Thanks to Instagram, I can tell you exactly what it is,” he said. “We’re seeing places like the Philippines and South Africa.”
According to Pall, his fanbase consists of 16 to 25 year olds all over the world.
“Closer” was not only their biggest song commercial, it was the start of a new era for the band. Andrew Taggart stepped out from behind the turn tables and moved to the microphone. As the lead singer of the group, Taggart is able to provide the vocals for all songs moving forward. They no longer have to rely on guest vocalists for their tracks.
